#deltachat is made to be a reliable and resilient messenger for private groups, friends and family.
If you want to use it for joining or creating "public groups", please do yourself a favor, and create a dedicated "public profile" by tapping "create profile" and then use it to join public invite links like here on the fediverse, or on websites etc
Public groups with anonymous un-trusted or trolling members can cause problems. Worst case, you can then drop the public chat profile.
@delta but it's possible to block users from contacting us right? In which scenario could it be an issue if some malicious trollers get a way to contact us to our regular deltachat account?
Same for qrcode we share, it's possible to invalidate them later on, preventing a leak to create such issues right?
@louis The problem is more that by joining a random public group, other people get to know your profile and can message you, create groups with you etc. Blocking helps somewhat, and we will likely improve it, but overall supporting public chatting with strangers is not a top priority on our side, currently. And if you do it, we strongly recommend a dedicated profile for use with public groups.
