Been around mastodon for a while.
I still find it very hard to discover people I'd be interested in following
@ignasi35 I built my Twitter timeline slowly, without using *any* recommendation algorithmn. It was mostly following people that people I followed retweeted, and because people I would notice on other websites would link to their Twitter.
I think the problem is that there is not a lot of people on ActivityPub.
Well, there is #FollowFriday, just follow the hashtag, or search for it.
There is also @FediFollows who made it their mission to continuously curate and post topical lists of accounts. Well worth following.
You may also wish to install the #StreetPass #browser #AddOn by @tvler which skims all websites that you visit for Mastodon verification links, and collects the corresponding Mastodon accounts, so at the end of the day you have a neat list of Mastodon accounts that you might wish to follow (if you're visiting interesting websites, that is).
Last but not least, we're already mutual followers, so what else would you need for happiness anyway? 😉

@yo yeah, I used the same approach, but I feel there's fewer mention, there are no FollowFriday's, and, as you said fewer ppl or activity.
