Signal famously doesn't allow third party clients. Molly currently flies under the radar but their official stance is: fuck off.
If #Conversations_im were to introduce ads tomorrow you just switch to a fork and move on with your life. With Signal you do what exactly?
@daniel Good point! With Signal Foundation I'm confident they'll never introduce ads because they're a nonprofit unlike #WhatsApp which got sold to Meta eventually. Still Signal service and app are single points of failure.
What we actually need is messaging infrastructure with the quality of Signal but in a federated manner.
I really liked Conversations but the Signal protocol seems to have won over #XMPP so far.
@daniel Of course, you're right, but it's hard enough to convince people to switch to Signal - and the step from fake encryption to open-source real encryption is most important to me for now... Please do keep up the good work tho. I have an XMPP handle for OMEMO encryption with Conversations in my profile btw (since a long time and luckily sometimes (the best) people use it)
@daniel
Isn't it backwards? XMPP does allow third party clients. Not one messenger of note else.
